Last Man Standing for Beginners

New to Last Man Standing? This guide will teach you everything you need to know to start playing, surviving, and winning competitions

What is Last Man Standing?

Last Man Standing (also called a Survivor Pool or Eliminator Competition) is a football prediction game where you pick one team each week to win their match. Here is the catch: you can only use each team once throughout the competition.

If your team wins, you survive and go through to the next round. If they lose or draw, you are eliminated. The last person standing wins the prize pot

How the Game Works

1

Join a Competition

Pay the £20 entry fee and you are in. The prize pot grows with every player who enters

2

Make Your Pick

Choose one team you think will win. You can only use each team once, so choose wisely

3

Survive

If your team wins, you move to the next round. Lose or draw, and you are out

4

Win!

Be the last player standing to win the entire prize pot. It could be hundreds or even thousands of pounds

The Rules Explained Simply

  • One Pick Per Round

You pick exactly one team to win their match each gameweek

  • No Repeats

Once you have used a team, you cannot pick them again in that competition

  • Deadlines Matter

Submit your pick before the deadline (usually Saturday at 12:30 for Premier League)

  • Win = Advance

If your team wins, you go through to the next round

  • Lose/Draw = Eliminated

If your team loses or draws, you are out (unless you use a buy-back)

Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using Big Teams Too Early: Do not waste Manchester City in week 1. Save them for harder rounds

  • Forgetting the Deadline: Set reminders. Missing the deadline counts as an elimination

  • Not Checking Injuries: Make sure key players are fit before picking a team

  • Ignoring Fixture Difficulty: That "easy" team might be away at a tough ground

Tips for First-Time Success

  • Start with easier fixtures. Look for teams playing at home against weaker opponents.

  • Save the big teams. Keep Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal for later rounds.

  • Check the form. A team on a winning streak is usually safer than a big name struggling for results.

  • Set multiple reminders. Use your phone to remind you 24 hours and 2 hours before the deadline.
