Premier League Last Man Standing 2026/27

A practical guide to the new season: choose one winner each round, save teams for later and outlast everyone else.

The 2026/27 opportunity

The Premier League returns on Friday 21 August 2026, with Arsenal v Coventry City opening the season. The fixture list is already published, which gives survivor-pool players time to plan rather than treating the first round as a blind guess. Match times can still move, so use the official schedule as the source of truth.

Last Man Standing creates a weekly football decision with a simple rule and a long memory: pick a team to win, survive if they do, and do not use that team again. Whether you are playing in an office pool, a club fundraiser or a group of mates, the rules, deadline and prize arrangement should be clear before the first fixture.

How Premier League LMS works

1

Pick one team

Choose one Premier League side you expect to win in the next round.

2

Win to survive

Your pick must win. A draw is normally the same as a loss.

3

Use teams once

Do not burn the same reliable team twice; availability is your strategic resource.

4

Meet the deadline

A late pick can end a season before the match has even kicked off.

Key season dates

  • 21 to 24 August: opening match round, beginning with Arsenal v Coventry City on Friday evening.
  • August and September: early broadcast changes have already been announced, so review kick-off times before every deadline.
  • 30 May 2027: final Premier League match round, with all fixtures scheduled to kick off together.

A better way to plan your picks

  • Start with the fixture list, not a club-name hierarchy. A strong side away from home can be a worse survivor pick than a mid-table side with a clean home fixture.

  • Keep a short list of teams you want available for future rounds. The key question is not only "will this team win?" but "what am I giving up by using them now?"

  • Check team news and changes to kick-off times before submitting. A good plan made on Monday is not a substitute for a final check near the deadline.

  • Do not assume a competition treats missed picks, postponed fixtures, re-entries or an all-player elimination in the same way as another pool. Those details belong in the rules.

Running a pool for a group

An office, friends' group or football club pool should settle its rules before the first ball is kicked: entry amount, prize split, deadline, what counts as a win, whether a missed pick is a default or elimination, and how postponed fixtures work. Those decisions prevent the familiar arguments that tend to arrive after the first unexpected draw.

If you would rather play than administer a spreadsheet, reminders and disputed picks, browse an active competition and read its specific rules before entering.

Premier League Last Man Standing FAQs

When does the 2026/27 Premier League season start?

The opening Premier League match is scheduled for Friday 21 August 2026. Check the official fixture list before making a pick because kick-off times can change for broadcast and cup commitments.

How does Premier League Last Man Standing work?

Choose one Premier League team to win in each round. A win keeps you in the competition; a draw or loss eliminates you. In most formats, you cannot use the same team twice, so the best pick this week is not always the biggest favourite.

Can I use the same team twice in Last Man Standing?

Not in the standard survivor-pool format. Check the rules of the competition you join, but plan as though every team can be used only once: saving a strong team for a later fixture is part of the strategy.

What happens if I miss a Last Man Standing deadline?

The answer depends on the competition rules. Some private pools assign a default team, while others eliminate a player with no valid pick. Read the active competition rules and set more than one reminder before the deadline.
